Aerobatic Flying Elite will compete in Riga on 20 of August 2011-08-12

After successful demonstrative competition, which took place last year, Latvian capital will hold the aerobatic flying competition of the highest level Riga FAI Elite Aerobatic Formula this year. Nine pilots, who represent the world aerobatic flying elite, were invited to participate in the competition. The competition approved by The World Air Sports Federation (FAI) is patronized by the Riga City Council and organized by Jurgis Kairys.
“Only the pilots, who were seasoned in aerobatics battles, can participate in the competition of such high level. We invite professionals, who managed to take the highest places in world and national championships, who have the highest ranking, and who proved their place among the best pilots in the world by multiple achievements,” states Jurgis Kairys.
Riga FAI Elite Aerobatic Formula competition will include the world best aerobatic flying pilots in the Unlimited category from 8 different countries.
France will be represented by Nicolas Ivanoff (aircraft Edge 540), Russia – by Michail Mamistov (aircraft Extra 300L), USA – by Jeff Boerboon (aircraft Extra 330SC), the United Kingdom – by Tom Cassells (aircraft Cap-232), Finland – by Sami Kontio (aircraft Cap-232), the Czech Republic – Martin Šonka (aircraft Extra 300SR). These pilots in accordance with their achievements and international ratings were delegated by the national aero clubs alongside with the International Aerobatics Commission (CIVA).
The priority right to participate in the competition was acquired by the former winners of FAI Elite Aerobatic Formula competitions: Castor Fantoba, the champion of Spain, prizeman of European and world championships and FAI World Grand Prix winner, and also Svetlana Kapanina (Russia), who managed to become the world champion in aerobatics six times, won the FAI World Grand Prix in 2007, and became a winner of many other prizes. Both pilots will fly the Su-26 aircraft.
By invitation of organizing authorities the famous Japanese pilot Yoshihide Muroya, flying Sbach 342, will also take participation in the event.
The airplanes will fly above the River Daugava, between Salu and Dienvidu Bridges. On 19 August the pilots will train and perform qualification flights, on 20 August will be the main day of the competition, and 21 August is intended as a reserved day. The solemn closing ceremony and awarding of winners are planned for 20 August, 19:00 p.m.
The spectators will watch the venturesome pilot battles and the aviation show from the island in the River Daugava (Zakusala), various competitions and other entertainment will be organized for them. Last year the demonstrative competition and the flight of Jurgis Kairys under the Daugava Bridge attracted about 250 thousand citizens and visitors of Riga.
The first competition under rules established by Jurgis Kairys JK Aerobatic Formula took place in Al Ain, the United Arab Emirates, in 2007 and 2008; in 2009 it took place in Mamaia, the Romanian resort, and in 2010 the demonstrative pilot battles took place in Riga, the capital of Latvia.
During the closing ceremony of Riga FAI Elite Aerobatic Formula Jurgis Kairys will perform demonstrative solo flights and a special programme alongside with the aerobatics group Air Bandits.
